Overview

The 8 Days Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and well-acclimatized Kilimanjaro itineraries, approaching the mountain from the western side. It offers excellent summit success rates, spectacular landscapes, and fewer crowds than the southern Machame Route.

Day 0: Pre-Climb Briefing & Gear Check (Hotel Day)

Location: Moshi Town

A detailed pre-climb briefing ensures safety, comfort, and a higher summit success rate.

Briefing Includes:

Overnight at your hotel in Moshi.

Start trekking through lush rainforest, with chances to see colobus monkeys and diverse vegetation.

  • Hiking Time:5–6 hours
  • Habitat:Moorland

Ascend gently onto the Shira Plateau with wide-open views of the western side of Kilimanjaro.

  • Hiking Time:4–5 hours

A gradual ascent allows your body to acclimatize while enjoying the stunning plateau scenery.

  • Hiking Time:6–7 hours
  • Habitat:Alpine desert

Climb high to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp for overnight rest.

  • Hiking Time:4–5 hours

Scramble the famous Barranco Wall and enjoy sweeping views of the southern glaciers.

  • Hiking Time:4–5 hours

Reach Barafu Camp in the afternoon to rest and prepare for the summit night.

  • Hiking Time:12–14 hours

Summit attempt starts around midnight. Celebrate at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, then descend to Mweka Camp through alpine desert and rainforest.

Enjoy breathtaking sunrise views from Africa’s roof!

  • Hiking Time:4–5 hours

Final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate, then transfer back to your hotel in Moshi.
