Overview

Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera .The crater, which formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago, is 610 metres (2,000 feet) deep and its floor covers 260 square kilometres (100 square miles). Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from 4,500 to 5,800 metres (14,800 to 19,000 feet) high. The crater floor is 1,800 metres (5,900 feet) above sea level. The crater was voted by Seven Natural Wonders  as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa in Arusha, Tanzania, in February 2013. The Ngorongoro volcano was active from about 2.45 to 2 million years ago.

Itinerary

At 7:00hrs you will be met by our Drive/Guide at your Hotel in Arusha and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park. Drive 130 Km paved road then swerve your way to get into Lake Manyara which stretches 50 Kms along the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Lake Manyara  National Park was renowned for its tree climbing lions as well as other animals which include elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, and impalas. Drive on the shores of the Alkine Lake to view the birds including the pelicans, flamingoes, egrets, comorants and storks. Make a short break for picnic lunch then continue with game viewing. Leave the park at 14:30hrs and drive to one of the hotels/lodges or campsites at Lake Manyara for dinner and overnight stay.

During the early morning breakfast we will collect your lunch boxes and then leave the Lodge approximately at 7:00hrs, and proceed to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Today you will be rewarded by visiting the Ngorongoro Crater widely known as the eighth natural wonder in the world. On the base of the Crater, you will be able to see elephants, buffaloes, African black rhinoceros, the black-maned lions, zebras, wildebeests and other species of the antelope group. In the afternoon there will be a break for picnic lunch at the site. Then continue with the tour. At about 16:00hrs leave the Crater and drive back to Moshi.
